Snapdragon 8 Gen2 Specifications Revealed: New Cortex-X3 and Cortex-A715 Cores

It was previously rumored that Qualcomm would launch its new Snapdragon 8 Gen2 chipset earlier than expected, i.e., in the Qualcomm Summit 2022, happening in November (usually happens in December). However, according to the latest leaks from the industry, things seem to be true.

This evening, the famous blogger @Ice Universe (on Weibo) revealed the specifications of Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen2. As per the revealed information, we can say that the new Snapdragon 8 Gen2 would be a significant upgrade over its predecessor.

Snapdragon 8 Gen2 Specs

In terms of specifications, the new Snapdragon 8 Gen2 would carry a model number: SD8550 and have a total of eight cores, including 1x Cortex-X3 Super Core (clocked @3.2GHz), 2x Cortex-A715 High-Performance Cores, Cortex-A710 Normal Performance Cores (all performance cores are clocked @2.8GHz) and the rest three cores are Cortex-A510 Energy-Efficient cores (clocked @2.0GHz).

Compared with the previous Snapdragon 8 Gen2, all the cores’ architecture is changed and we can expect a massive gap between the performance of both chipsets.

If we talk about its expected competitors like Dimensity 9100/10000 or Exynos 2230/2300, the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 will probably outperform all of its competitors. However, if Mediatek makes significant changes in its upcoming chipset, the competition would be very tough between both competitors.

The upcoming flagship devices from top manufacturers (in the industry), including Samsung Galaxy S23, Xiaomi 13, and Vivo X90 series, are expected to feature this chipset. We hope the competition between Android smartphones (powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen2) and iOS smartphones will get tough.
